With July Fourth on the horizon and steamy weather dominating our outdoor lives, we all need some rad music to keep us going. This weekend, we recommend an exceptional electro/indie act, a Southern rock CD release, and a comedy movie legend's 24th birthday. Stay cool, stay awesome, and listen local!

The Wild Now w/Quiet Hollers

Bursting at the seams with rhythm, vibe, and inward-facing lyrics, The Wild Now continues its rise to Austin's musical elite. On the latest single, "Young, Dumb & Broke," vocalist Taylor Baker bemoans the shallow state of the adolescent experience with soft, plaintive vocals. Framed like a Lorde single, the track is somber and pining while maintaining the duo's signature groove. Also playing: Louisville indie act Quiet Hollers.

Blending Southern rock, Ennio Morricone horns, and psychedelic vibe, Sheverb's smoldering sound matches Texas heat in a big way. Of the three tracks available on the group's Bandcamp page, "Thunder Lizard" is my favorite. Awash with the throb and twang of mariachi rock, and peppered with tight guitar and horns, the tune is tailor-made for a Robert Rodriquez film. Discover this outstanding act on Friday and prepare to become a fan.

If you grew up in the mid '90s, then you knew at least one annoying person who did nothing but impersonate Ace Ventura. Backed by the sensational musical stylings of indie act Calliope Musicals and the rap/rock genius of Trouble in the Streets, Cheer Up Charlies will play host to an incredible tribute to the iconic comedy character. Come for the music, wear your favorite Ace Ventura costume, and stay for the crazy party.
